(Yicai) June 5 -- The 12th China Shanghai International Technology Fair, which will kick off next week, will highlight domestically developed hard technology products, including minimally invasive cardiac surgical instruments and surface treatment equipment that utilizes artificial intelligence.

Huihe Medical Technology will show its transcatheter tricuspid valve annuloplasty system for the first time at the CSITF, which will run from June 11 through 13, the Shanghai-based company told Yicai yesterday. The device transforms traditional open-chest surgery into a minimally invasive procedure with an incision size of just five millimeters, allowing patients to be discharged as early as the day after surgery.

China sees more than 100,000 new patients requiring surgical treatment for tricuspid valve disorders each year, with over 500,000 existing patients, Xu Jun, chief technology officer of Huihe Medical Tech, said to Yicai. These patients would face extremely high risks if they underwent traditional open-chest surgery, highlighting the urgent need for interventional treatment products, Xu stressed.

Established in 2019, Huihe Medical Tech's interventional surgical device was approved to hit the market last year. The product has been introduced to over 100 hospitals and has been used in hundreds of patients, with this year's goal being to complete 1,000 procedures, according to Xu.

It usually takes 10 years for such medical devices to go from development to market, but Huihe Medical Tech managed to do so in just six years, Xu noted. The shortened development cycle was thanks to the support for innovative devices provided by the Shanghai government, Xu said, adding that the company will likely become profitable this year, while it is preparing for a listing on the city's Nasdaq-style Star Market.

Surface Intelligent Technology will show its AI-intelligent surface treatment solution at the CSITF, which can replace manual labor in grinding and polishing operations that may pose risks of dust inhalation, hearing impairment, and other occupational hazards for workers.

By collecting data through multi-dimensional sensors and controlling and analyzing the entire polishing process with AI software, the device can maintain surface polishing precision within 0.8 micrometers, achieving an efficiency improvement of about 50 percent compared to traditional methods, Lin Shicong, who works at Surface Intelligent Tech, told Yicai.

The equipment of Shanghai-based Surface Intelligent Tech is used in the production lines of several auto and industrial manufacturers, including Seres Group, BMW Group, and Dalian Huarui Heavy Industry Group, Lin said. The company bagged about CNY100 million (USD14.8 million) in sales last year, expecting to double that this year, Lin added.

This year's CSITF will cover 38,000 square meters, welcoming over 1,000 participating companies for the first time, Zhou Lan, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, said at a press conference on June 3. The event will focus on digital and green transformation, highlighting a range of hard tech achievements, including 15 debut products, Zhou pointed out.

The CSITF will also include an international exhibition area for the first time this year, featuring 74 participating firms organized by 26 foreign trade promotion agencies from countries and regions such as Germany and France. The exhibition will focus on innovative achievements in robotics, precision manufacturing, digital solutions, and other areas, Zhou added.
