China’s Nio to Recall More Than 245,000 EVs Over Software Issue(Yicai) Feb. 10 -- Chinese carmaker Nio will recall more than 245,00 electric vehicles to fix a software issue that potentially poses safety risks.
The recall affects 246,229 ES8, ES6, and EC6 models produced by Nio from March 16, 2018 to Jan. 16, 2023, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced yesterday. Most can be fixed through remote software updates, it said.
Under certain conditions, the software fault can cause a short blackout of both the dashboard and central control screen, temporarily depriving drivers of critical readouts and features such as speed, warning indicators, and defog/defrost functions, posing safety risks, the SAMR said.
Nio will provide a free over-the-air software update to the affected vehicles, upgrading them to Aspen 3.5.6, Alder 2.1.0, or newer versions, which will resolve the issue, the Shanghai-based firm said. Autos that have already received these updates require no further action, it added.
For the few vehicles that have not received the update, Nio will contact the owners to implement the recall and eliminate the issue, the carmaker pointed out.
Nio had delivered 289,556 vehicles as of Dec. 31, 2022, including many high-end smart models, such as the ES8, the ES7, known as the EL7 in Europe, the ES6, the EC7, the EC6, the ET7, and the ET5. The recalled ES8, ES6, and EC6 autos only involve its first-generation platform.
