Shanghai Expands Official Newsletter to Boost Economic Coverage Shanghai Expands Official Newsletter to Boost Economic Coverage

(Yicai) Feb. 10 -- Shanghai has upgraded its official newsletter service to include more economic, financial, and industrial information as the city seeks to build itself into a global hub for the economy and finance.

The updated newsletter, produced by the municipality’s information office, will devote more than half of its daily content to economic information, including macroeconomic data, industry dynamics, scientific and technological achievements, trade developments, and emerging trends in consumer markets, the office announced at a press reception event yesterday.

The newsletter will also feature analysis articles on Shanghai’s economic development written by experts and scholars from around the world, as well as provide information on upcoming events and key interviews to help journalists prepare, the office said.

“I’ve been living here for one year as a correspondent, and I’m covering economics and technology,” Andrei Popov, who works for Russian news agency TASS’s Shanghai bureau, told Yicai at the event. “Shanghai now is a very important city globally, and I’ve heard that it’s going to be a world-level city of innovations, so we’re paying attention to it.”

Shanghai has many unique advantages in developing emerging industries and has achieved solid results in recent years, taking a leading position in China and even globally, said He Wanpeng, director of the Qiantan Emerging Industry Institute.

According to Shanghai’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) blueprint released recently, the city aims to achieve average annual gross domestic product growth of around 5 percent through 2030. The target is expected to significantly enhance Shanghai’s overall economic strength, global competitiveness, and residents’ livelihoods.

More than 100 international professionals working or studying in Shanghai attended the event yesterday, celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year alongside Chinese and foreign media representatives, local business figures, and fellow students.
