BGI Unit to Offer Gene Testing for Pregnant Women in South China Mill City(Yicai Global) Aug.15 -- Asubsidiary of BGI Genomicshasrecently won the bid for a project of the health and family planning bureau of Dongguan, an industrialcity in China's southerneconomic dynamo ofGuangdong province,to provide prenatal genetic testing services for pregnant women in the city.
The subsidiary has been confirmed as the successful bidder by the municipal health authority as the supplierofthe DNA prenatal screening program, the Shenzhen-based leading Chinese gene technology developer said in a statementyesterday.
During the term of the three-year program, theaffiliatewill provide the service toresidents ofthe city-- sometimes dubbed'the factory of the world'--within a total budgetunderCNY21million(USD4.2 million).Actual income will be based on specific test items and the number of people receiving screening,perthe statement.
The successful bidding and follow-up of this project willenhance the regional layout of the company's genetic technology for thepublic welfareand enable precision medicine to benefit more families,andpositivelyimpact the company's future operating performance, it added.
