(Yicai) Dec. 1 -- Zootopia 2 has raked in CNY1.9 billion (USD267 million) over its first five days in China, accounting for more than half of its global box office so far, with the Walt Disney Animation Studios' flick breaking multiple records.

Zootopia 2's China takings already exceeded the CNY1.5 billion earned by the first movie at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30, according to data from Lighthouse Professional Edition. In addition, its CNY228 million (USD32.2 million) opening on Nov. 26 broke the country's single-day gross record for an imported animated film, before smashing Avengers: Endgame's overall single-day record with CNY730 million on Nov. 29.

Zootopia 2 earned USD556.5 million at the global box office over its opening weekend, ranking fourth among the largest openings of all time and first among animated films, according to data from Box Office Mojo.

On Chinese social media platform Douban, Zootopia 2 has received an overall rating of 8.6 from 260,000 users, with one commenting that "this is a 108-minute experience where the cinema becomes a sanctuary."

The total box office of Zootopia 2 in China may reach CNY4.3 billion, which will top Avengers: Endgame to become the highest-grossing imported film ever, according to projections from Maoyan Pro.

Zootopia 2's box office performance has injected a much-needed vibrancy into China's movie market. Despite premiering on a Wednesday, it boosted cinema takings to around CNY280 million from less than CNY50 million (USD39.6 million from USD7.1 million) on that day.

Some cinemas in Shanghai held nearly 40 screenings of Zootopia 2 per day over its first weekend, with the movie's screening rate reaching 77 percent and generating 95 percent of the box office. Despite the dense schedule, the occupancy rate during peak hours still stood at around 60 to 70 percent.

In addition, the popularity of Zootopia 2 in China extends beyond theaters. Shanghai Disney Resort, which is home to the world's only Zootopia-themed attraction, held an event where visitors could meet Judy and Nick, the two main characters from the movie, with waiting lines reaching up to 210 minutes.
