Xiaomi Delivers First EVs; Monthly Shipments to Top 10,000 Units by June, Founder Says Xiaomi Delivers First EVs; Monthly Shipments to Top 10,000 Units by June, Founder Says

(Yicai) April 25 -- Some 5,781 units of Xiaomi Automobile's first electric car, the SU7, have already been delivered and production is ramping up to meet the great number of orders, the founder of parent firm Xiaomi Corp. said at the Beijing Auto Show today.

Xiaomi Auto’s monthly shipments should exceed 10,000 units by June, Lei Jun said at the 18th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition that kicked off today. Deliveries of the Xiaomi SU7 Pro will start next month.

Orders exceeded 75,000 units as of April 20, Lei said. Around 28 percent of orders are placed by women, and the number of female owners is expected to account for between 40 percent and 50 percent of the total. Some 29 percent of Xiaomi SU7’s purchasers also own Mercedes-Benz, BMW as well as Audi autos. And 51.9 percent of them are Apple users.

Xiaomi is adept in manufacturing, delivery and quality management having been a top smartphone maker for the last 14 years, Lei said, adding that US EV giant Tesla’s Model 3 performs much better than the Xiaomi SU7 in terms of energy consumption.

Those who buy a Luxeed S7, developed by Huawei Technologies and Chery Automobile, together with a Xiaomi SU7, will be given a discount, according to rumors circulating on social media.

“I am not aware of it," a source at Shenzhen-based Huawei said. "The last few weekends, many consumers have come to Huawei’s brick-and-mortar stores for test drives and they are mostly concerned about the carmaker being able to deliver mass orders.”

Xiaomi’s share price [HKG:1810] dipped 0.1 percent to HKD16.56 (USD2) as of 2.30 p.m.
