Tansun Surges on News of Deal to Purchase 20,000 Nvidia GPUs Tansun Surges on News of Deal to Purchase 20,000 Nvidia GPUs

(Yicai) Oct. 9 -- Chinese fintech service provider Tansun Technology has announced a deal involving procurement of 20,000 new RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell chips from US chip giant Nvidia. The chips are eagerly anticipated by the market and there has been much speculation about the pricing.

Tansun [SHE: 300872] closed up 12.38 percent at CNY16.16 (USD2.4) today, following the announcement, even though no further details about the deal were revealed. Yicai called the firm, posing as an investor, and a member of staff said they still need to confirm whether the disclosure requirements have been met.

The RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell is not typically regarded as a chip suitable for large-scale artificial intelligence training and inference in data centers, but rather as a workstation product. Nvidia’s website says the RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition is "coming soon," indicating it has not yet been officially launched.

The RTX PRO series is a product line designed for professional-grade AI and graphics technology and it has 84 gigabytes of high-speed memory. The RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition is designed for professionals in areas such as media and entertainment, architecture, engineering and healthcare. It is suitable for generative AI, physical AI applications and scientific computing and data analysis.

Although the RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition can run AI workloads, it still falls significantly short compared to graphics processing units commonly used in AI data centers. In terms of memory bandwidth, which impacts AI performance, the RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell has a memory bandwidth of 1,395 GB per second. In contrast, Nvidia’s H100 data center GPU boasts a memory bandwidth of 3 terabytes per second.

Even though it has not yet been launched, the market is still keenly interested in the price of the product. Yicai found that on e-commerce platforms, the price for the 72GB RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell workstation edition is between CNY61,000 and CNY77,000 (USD9,115 and USD11,506), while the 96GB RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell workstation edition is priced between CNY123,000 and CNY146,000 (USD18,379 and USD21,816).

On this basis, the price of the RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell can be estimated at CNY80,000 to CNY120,000. This suggests that the total procurement amount for Tansun could be between CNY1.6 billion and CNY2.4 billion (USD239 million and USD358 million).

According to Tansun’s website, it serves clients in the financial industry, mainly banks, and it uses AI and blockchain technology to provide consulting, fintech products, and services.

The Beijing-based firm sees promising growth potential in its computing power leasing business, which offers long-term computing power services to leading internet ecosystems and large language model companies. In June this year, Tansun announced a partnership with Capitalonline Data Service to establish a joint venture focused on computing power leasing, with Tansun contributing CNY70 million (USD10.46 million) to the venture.

Last year, Tansun reported a revenue increase of 0.6 percent year-on-year, reaching CNY1.78 billion. However, having previously made a profit it slipped back into the red with a net loss of CNY138 million (USD20.62 million). The company attributed this to several factors, including intensified market competition, increased project management challenges, business transformation, and personnel restructuring.
