Suppliers to Halt Production Amid iPhone Component Order Shrinkage, Report Says Suppliers to Halt Production Amid iPhone Component Order Shrinkage, Report Says

(Yicai Global) Jan. 18 -- Apple's component suppliers may be forced to have a long holiday during the Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, amid shrinkage of iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus component orders, reported an IT industry publication.

The iPhone component orders for the first quarter of this year are 15 percent to 30 percent lower than expected, and the declining sales of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have dragged that of iPhone X down, Taiwan-based IT news outlet Digitimes reported yesterday, citing a supply-chain manufacturer.

The orders for iPhone parts, especially iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus parts, have dropped starting from the last quarter of 2017 as iPhone sales were lower than estimated in the second half, the report added. Affected by fewer iPhone part orders and the coming Spring Festival, which falls on Feb. 15, some component suppliers plan to hold off production next month, the report claimed.

Upstream supply-chain suppliers such as storage, camera module, 3D sensor module and printed circuit board firms are carrying out inventory control to cope with effects of the order decline, it added.
