(Yicai Global) March 25 -- Lu Ke, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been honored with this year’s Institute of Metals/Robert Franklin Mehl Award for his research into nano-metal materials, making him only the second Chinese scientists to win the prestigious award.

Lu was the 101st recipient of the award, the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said in a statement yesterday.

The award is presented annually to a scientist who has made outstanding contributions and shown outstanding leadership in the field of materials science and engineering. Materials physicist Ge Tingsui was the first Chinese to receive it in 1999.

Lu was elected a CAS academician in 2003 and has been the director of the Shenyang National Laboratory of Materials Science since 2018. In the same year, he became vice governor of Liaoning province. The 56-years-old scholar is also a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and a foreign member of the US National Academy of Engineering.

He has published more than 400 papers in Chinese and foreign academic journals, has more than 40 patents on inventions, and delivered over 60 invited lectures at international academic conferences.

In 2006, Lu was hired as a review editor of Science, the top weekly academic journal in the United States, according to the IMR.
