Jiangsu University of Science and Technology Fires Chief Scientist Who Lied on Resume(Yicai) Nov. 20 -- Jiangsu University of Science and Technology said it has terminated the contract of its chief scientist after he was found to have fabricated his resume and academic achievements.
Chief Scientist Guo committed serious academic misconduct and was fired in accordance with regulations, JUST announced recently. The university has reported his alleged criminal behavior to the police, and the case is under investigation, it noted.
Guo joined JUST in 2023 as a chief scientist, as well as a professor and a doctoral supervisor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, getting classified as a class-A innovative talent.
JUST launched a probe into Guo after receiving a report against him in September, it pointed out, admitting problems with its review of his application documents.
Yicai failed to reach the director of the Talent Work Office, the director of the Talent Division, and JUST's School of Materials Science and Engineering for comment on the matter.
Guo's impressive resume is allegedly riddled with multiple fabrications, The Paper reported. He claims to have published academic papers, boasts of academic achievements, and says he has held important posts that either do not exist or were accomplished by others.
JUST requires class-A innovative talent teaching applications to be "renowned experts with high prestige at home and abroad and have made significant contributions to the development of specific fields", according to a document on its website. The university provides housing subsidies and startup funds for scientific research projects by such recruits.
