(Yicai Global) Oct. 11 -- Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA], ordered food wirelessly in a demonstration 'future smart restaurant,' Sinatech reported Oct.10.
Yuan Jiajun, governor of China's eastern Zhejiang province, accompanied Ma on his visit to the smart restaurant, which was built by Alibaba subsidiaries Koubei, Ant Technology Laboratory and Alipay AR Group.
The eatery is equipped with a huge touch-screen table with functions that include wireless ordering, personalized recommendations and pre-meal games.
The system identifies users as they seat themselves. Eaters can order food via a smart interface by touching the screen or gesturing and the system will make personalized recommendation based on their previous purchases. Real dishes come served via these artificial reality (AR) interactions. Automatic debiting by Alipay lets diners leave directly after gustation.
"We wanted to show restaurants Koubei's information technology for wireless ordering of dishes and automatic debit via this demonstration," explained Feng Xi, Koubei's product manager.
Restaurants will no longer need paper menus, waiting staff, or cashiers in the future, and diners will feel as comfortable as they are at home, added Lin Feng, a senior technical expert at Ant Financial Lab.
