(Yicai) Aug. 29 -- The 2025 Chengdu International Auto Show opened today with its largest-ever exhibition area for new energy vehicles, highlighting the rapid expansion of China’s NEV market.

This year’s NEV display area has grown by 40 percent from last year. Around 120 car brands are expected to showcase more than 1,600 vehicles across a total exhibition space of 220,000 square meters during the event, which runs through Sept. 7 at the Western China International Expo City in Chengdu.

Highlights From the Show:

The event will continue through early September, drawing major automakers and new entrants alike.

Volvo Cars is displaying its XC70, a plug-in hybrid crossover SUV. Built on the Scalable Modular Architecture platform, the XC70 boasts Volvo’s longest electric-only range to date.

The show marks the debut of the Shangjie H5, the first model from the new brand Shangjie, jointly developed by SAIC Motor and Huawei Technologies. Shangjie is the fifth brand under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a stylish exhibition space featuring its AMG GLE 53 Cabriolet and a pure-electric version of its CLA sedan.

Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor is showcasing a futuristic concept car equipped with an intelligent cockpit system.
