(Yicai Global) May 20 -- Huawei Technologies will not invest in electric car marque Arcfox owned by BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology, the new energy vehicle unit under state-owned Beijing Automotive Group told Yicai Global today.

Huawei is trying to acquire a controlling stake in BAIC BluePark’s EV brand Arcfox, foreign media reported yesterday. Shenzhen-based Huawei has repeatedly denied reports that the tech giant is aiming to become a carmaker, instead saying it wishes to stay focussed on the software side of things.

The luxury electric vehicle Arcfox Alpha S, which debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show last month, is the first smart auto to come with the full Huawei Inside system, including the Harmony operating system, lidar and 5G.

Arcfox has received pre-orders for more than 1,000 vehicles and will start deliveries in the fourth quarter, the Beijing News reported yesterday.
