(Yicai Global) Oct. 27 -- Members of the Chinese and international media took part in a workshop in Shanghai yesterday where academics and government ministers helped them to understand some of the key messages delivered during the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that concluded at the weekend.
How to interpret 'high-quality development,' 'leading a higher level of opening up' and 'acting on the belief that cities work for people' were just some of the issues brought up at the Chinese and Foreign Press Academic Salon convened by the Shanghai government and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences in the wake of the National Congress and in the run-up to the fifth China International Import Expo next month.
As one of the essential features of China-style modernization, high-quality development was proposed as the primary task of building a modern socialist country for the first time at the National Congress, said Li Wei, director of the Graduate School at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, at the event, which was attended by around 25 Chinese and foreign reporters.
In its future journey, Shanghai will build up the capability to form a large domestic economic cycle and enhance the resilience of its industrial supply chains to create a more stable, diversified and efficient industrial division of labor system. The city will also continue to play an important role in a higher level of opening up, Li said.
The CIIE, which will be held from Nov. 5 to Nov. 10 in Shanghai, is a golden opportunity for China to share the fruits of its development with the world, said Zhang Xiaodi, an associate researcher at the Institute of Economics at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. China will introduce a series of opening up measures through the CIIE platform, benefiting exhibitors.
The Shanghai Self-Assessment Report 2022 on Implementing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be released at the World Cities Day 2022 Global Event and the Second Global Conference on Urban Sustainability to be held in Shanghai from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, said Deng Zhituan, director of the Urban Strategy and Planning Research Office at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. Deng and his team prepared the report.
