Chinese Team Climbs to World's Highest Peak to Measure It(Yicai Global) May 27 -- An eight-member Chinese team has successfully reached the top of the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, this morning to calculate its height, CCTV reported.
China initiated the research project on April 30 but bad weather has delayed the mission twice.
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the country has conducted six missions to determine the exact height of the peak, releasing the two figures of 8,848.13 meters and 8,844.43 m, but this latest time is the first time that the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System has been available to specify the number.
