(Yicai) Sept. 23 -- Manufacturing plants, retail stores, and educational centers in several cities in southern China have closed as super typhoon Ragasa approaches the Chinese mainland.

Dongguan, Jiangmen, Shantou, Zhuhai, and Yangjiang in Guangdong province, as well as Haikou in Hainan province, announced yesterday that they were implementing the 'Five Stop' measures, halting classes, work, production, transport, and businesses.

China's National Meteorological Center has issued an orange-level typhoon warning at 6 a.m. the same day, as Ragasa is expected to move into the northeastern South China Sea early today and make landfall along the coast between Shenzhen and Xuwen in Guangdong province tomorrow.

Strong winds and heavy rain are expected to pummel the central and eastern coastal areas of Guangdong and the northern coast of Hainan.

Dongguan announced it would halt all schools, training institutions, and outdoor work activities from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25, while suspending food delivery and express delivery services from 2 p.m. today to 6 a.m. on Sept. 25.

Shenzhen will halt several railroads and ground flights at Shenzhen Baoan International Airport from 8 p.m. today. All ferry services were shut on Sept. 21 and will not resume until Sept. 25.

Due to typhoon Ragasa, the Qiongzhou Strait will experience prolonged service suspensions from the night of Sept. 23, Hainan authorities announced yesterday. Rail services to and from Hainan Island will also be halted, China’s southernmost province said.

Haikou Meilan International Airport issued travel advisories yesterday, notifying the public that flights to and from the airport will be affected by the typhoon.

Some 146 passenger ferries along 50 routes on Fujian province's coastline had been suspended as of yesterday. Fujian is located to the Northeast of Guangdong along the coast.

JD.Com's supermarket chain Seven Fresh, Alibaba Group Holding's instant retail site Taobao Flash, and its food delivery platform Ele.me have activated emergency plans to ensure the safety of delivery services while striving to meet customer needs, Yicai learned.
