(Yicai) July 24 -- Skyworth Group is betting that the next wave of home technology will be powered by artificial intelligence and clean energy, with the Chinese consumer electronics giant preparing to launch home AI computing terminals as it builds out a whole-house smart ecosystem, according to founder Huang Hongsheng.

Every family will have an AI computing terminal in the AI era, which will be possible thanks to the rapid development of Chinese chips, including Huawei Technologies' Ascend series and those from Cambricon Technologies, Huang said in a recent interview with Yicai. Skyworth plans to gradually release new home computing terminal products from this year, he added.

Skyworth’s set-top-box business has partnerships with telecoms and broadcasting companies worldwide, giving the Shenzhen-based company access to a user base of 1 billion people, Huang pointed out, adding that these users will increasingly need more computing power and token-based AI applications, creating new business opportunities.

At the same time, Skyworth is incubating multiple tech-focused subsidiaries, including brain chip unit Pengnao Technology, according to Huang, who is also the group’s actual controller. Skyworth hopes to cultivate more innovative companies, bring AI into real-world use, and expand its user base during the AI era, he stressed.

In the television arena, Huang pointed out that having secured the North American operating rights for Philips TVs last year, Skyworth has taken over the rights for Panasonic TVs in both Europe and North America this year. By leveraging new technologies, including AI-enabled connectivity, Skyworth can capitalize on demand for TV upgrades, he noted.

Furthermore, Skyworth is aggressively expanding its home and commercial photovoltaic businesses in Southeast Asia, including in Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam, as well as in Europe, Africa, and South America, Huang said. He expects its overseas PV revenue to double in 2026.

Because upstream segments of the solar industry, including silicon rods, polysilicon materials, and solar cells, have excess capacity, Skyworth is focusing more on the consumer while extending its business into inverters, energy storage systems, battery modules, and solar cells, he said. Global electricity prices are rising while the cost of solar power generation continues to decline, creating sustained long-term demand for replacements and upgrades, he stressed.
