(Yicai) Feb. 21 -- The brain-computer interface market continues to expand rapidly in China and will likely grow 75 percent to CNY5.6 billion (USD772 million) by 2027, according to a new report.
China's southern Guangdong province was the provincial-level region with the most BCI companies last year, according to a recent report by CCID Consulting. It homed 80 firms with registration certificates for BCI products or had them under development, much more than other regions.
Innovative BCI technologies continue to emerge with the development of artificial intelligence and neuroscience tech, the report said. Related application scenarios in the medical, consumer, industrial, education, and other areas constantly expand, with market demand to keep increasing.
Jiangsu province, Zhejiang province, and Beijing had between 20 and 40 BCI companies, while Hunan province, Shanghai, Sichuan province, Henan province, Hebei province, and Hubei province rounded up the top 10.
However, Beijing ranked first with 484 patent applications filed by BCI companies, followed by Guangdong with 360, Tianjin with 294, Zhejiang with 246, and Shanghai with 230.
Most BCI products approved for marketing are non-implantable interfaces, accounting for 82 percent of the market last year. However, with the continuous advancement of implantable BCI technology and the constant exploration of therapeutic potential, the market share of implantable products will likely reach 25 percent by 2027.
