(Yicai Global) Feb. 18 -- China's mainland stock markets surged today on a widening money supply while the trading volume reached a new high in 10 months.

More than 100 stocks rallied to the upper limit of 10 percent gains. The total market volume reached CNY547.7 billion (USD81 billion), a new high since last April. Stocks of livestock companies and chipmakers started advancing in the morning while those related to banks and securities firms began rising in the afternoon.

Increases in new yuan-denominated loans, as well as non-governmental funding both hit record highs for the month of January, the People's Bank of China said in a statement on Feb. 15. The move added liquidity into the financial system.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed 2.68 percents up at 2,754.36 points, with a trading volume of CNY224.2 billion.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 3.95 percents to 8,446.92, with CNY323.5 billion worth of equities swapped. The volume has hovered at around CNY170 billion during January.

The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, closed 4.11 percents higher at 1,413.31, after CNY91.2 billion worth of shares changed hands.
