Following his viral post seeking public advice on his post-retirement options, Chinese Olympic hurdling legend Liu Xiang said he has finalized a CNY494,000 (USD73,600) buyout to sever ties with the local sports bureau, adding that he has donated all of his CNY982,935 salary and subsidies earned over the past 11 years to disaster relief, while urging system reforms for a more flexible and thoughtful transition for retired athletes who sacrificed their youth and health.
