Guan Jinsheng, known as the godfather of China's securities industry, died of illness on Oct. 7, according to private fund manager Royal Sunward. Guan founded Shanghai's first securities firm Wanguo Securities. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison for market manipulation in 1997.
