(Yicai Global) March 29 -- Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of Huawei Technologies’ founder Ren Zhengfei, is set to become the Chinese telecoms giant’s next rotating chairperson, a role she will take up for the first time.

The 51-year-old Meng, who is also Huawei’s vice chairwoman and chief financial officer, will serve as rotating chairwoman from April 1 to Sept. 30, Yicai Global learned from the Shenzhen-based firm yesterday.

Vice chairmen Xu Zhijun and Hu Houkun were named as the other two rotating chairpersons, with each also set to head Huawei for six months in turn.

Huawei replaced its rotating chief executive officer system with a rotating chairmanship in 2018 to further promote collective leadership. The on-duty rotating chairperson is the company’s head, entrusted with managing the board of directors, according to Huawei’s website.

The tech giant has also swelled its board membership to 17 from 13 to include core business leaders.

Xu Wenwei and Yan Lida were dismissed from the board. Meanwhile, human resources head Zheng Liangcai, Huawei Cloud CEO Zhang Pingan, Central Research Institute President Zha Jun, digital energy President Hou Jinlong, information and communication technologies products and solutions President Yang Chaobin, and Chief Supply Officer Ying Weimin were appointed as new members.

The board changes reflect Huawei’s efforts to focus on strengthening its hardware and software businesses and seeking new profit growth through the cloud and digital energy businesses, an insider told Yicai Global.
