(Yicai Global) Sept. 28 -- BYD is linking arms with leading Jordanian automotive distributor Bustami and Saheb Trading to supply new energy vehicles to the Middle Eastern Kingdom, China’s most popular electric carmaker said on its Weibo account today.

Bustami and Saheb, together with BYD, are committed to becoming the first suppliers of advanced electric vehicles in Jordan to meet the needs of the country’s transition to NEVs, BYD said in the press release.

Jordan has the fourth-highest fuel prices in the world and there is huge local demand for electric cars, said Rami Al-Saheb, chairman of Amman-based Bustami and Sahed. The Jordanian government is also being very supportive of the NEV sector.

The cooperation will open a new chapter for electric autos in Jordan, said Al-Saheb. Bustami and Sahed have over 50 years of experience in the automotive industry and enjoy a good reputation. And BYD has greatly promoted the development of NEV technology. No further details were given.

BYD has been China’s top seller of electric cars for nine straight years. In the first half, its NEV sales more than quadrupled from the same period last year, shifting 640,000 units. BYD autos are available in more than 400 cities across 70 countries and regions.
