(Yicai) Aug. 14 -- Global restructuring consultancy Alvarez & Marsal has appointed Zhu Wei, previously chairman of Accenture China, as managing director and co-head of North Asia to help drive the US firm’s growth strategy in the region.

Zhu will work alongside James Dubow to lead operations in North Asia, along with growing A&M’s practices in restructuring and turnaround, performance improvement, disputes and investigations, global transaction advisory, tax and digital in China, the New York-based firm announced today.

“Wei’s exceptional expertise will help drive A&M’s strategic regional priorities forward,” Dubow said.

Zhu has 35 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, and private equity. He had been chairman of Accenture China since 2018, and before that he worked for Standard Chartered Bank Private Equity, CVC Capital, and Goldman Sachs Gao Hua Securities.

“We are undertaking a global expansion with a series of senior appointments across the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia,” said Bryan Marsal, co-founder and co-chief executive of A&M. Zhu’s appointment “underscores our commitment to expanding our North Asia footprint,” he said.

North Asia is “undergoing an accelerated transition from traditional growth models to a more quality and sustainability-based economy,” Zhu said, adding that “A&M’s integrated platform uniquely positions the firm to help corporates navigate this transformation and optimize opportunities arising from rapid digitalization across industries.” 

Founded in 1983, A&M is known for its work in turnaround management, performance improvement, and business advisory services. In recent years, it has been involved in a number significant projects and collaborations in China and North Asia, including playing a key role in the restructuring of HNA Group.

A&M has more than 10,000 staff across six continents, and since 2020, the firm has expanded its footprint in the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen as well as Seoul, South Korea. Its North Asia revenue grew 2.5 times in the three years through 2023.
