(Yicai Global) Sept. 8 -- Global shipping accounts for more than 85 percent of international trade transport volumes. And its greenhouse gas emissions came to 1 billion tons in 2018, accounting for 2.89 percent of the world's overall emissions.

Reducing emissions from the shipping sector has attracted a lot of attention from the international community. In China, shipping is an important strength that supports economic and social development. China's carbon emissions from waterway transportation tallied 49 million tons in 2020. The shipping industry, as a significant mode of transport, needs to be transformed into a low-carbon model together with other means of transportation.

What challenges will we face? Will it spur new vitality? Which new patterns will shape the industry in the future? Yicai's North Bund Forum high-end interview talked with Fan Qiang, vice president of the China Classification Society.
